What Moving Along Mombasa Road Is Actually Like.
Two things define this corridor: the SGR station and the freight. Syokimau and Mlolongo filled up because of the commuter link, and the road they sit on carries a large share of the country's trucks.
- Expressway or the old road. They are not the same journey. The expressway is quicker when it is clear, but the old road is where all the estate turnoffs are — and a loaded truck is not always better off overhead. We decide per move rather than by habit.
- Freight congestion sets the clock. Heavy truck traffic in and out of the industrial belt can turn a short hop into an afternoon. We time the run around it instead of pretending it is not there.
- The SGR commuter belt. Syokimau and Mlolongo are full of apartment blocks built for people who catch the train. Standard apartment access questions apply: floor, lift, and where the truck stands.
- Warehouse and light-industrial moves. This is the one part of our patch where the job is as likely to be stock, shelving and equipment as it is sofas. Loading bays, pallets and a tight shutdown window are normal here.
