These Terms & Conditions apply when Nyati Movers (“we”, “us”, “our”) quotes for or carries out a move for you (“you”, “the customer”). We are based in Ruiru, Kiambu County, Kenya.

By accepting our quote or booking a move with us, you agree to these terms. Please read them alongside the written quote we send you — the quote sets out the price, the scope of work and the payment and cancellation terms for your particular move, and it forms part of our agreement with you.

1. Quotes

  • Quotes are free and carry no obligation.
  • A quote is based on the information you give us — the inventory or description of what is being moved, the two addresses, the access at each end (floor, lift or stairs, parking, gate width, carry distance), the date and the services required.
  • For any move larger than a one-bedroom property, we will normally survey the property in person or by video call before quoting. Office moves are surveyed in person.
  • A quote is valid for the period stated on it. After that we may need to re-quote.

When a quote can change

The price we quote is the price you pay. It can only change where, on the day, the job is materially different from what was described to us — for example:

  • there is substantially more to move than was declared, or items appear that were not on the inventory;
  • an item is significantly heavier, larger or more difficult than described (for example an undeclared piano, safe or large appliance);
  • access is materially worse than described — a lift is out of service, parking is not available where we were told it would be, or the carry distance is far longer;
  • you ask us to do additional work that was not in the quoted scope;
  • we are kept waiting for a reason outside our control, such as keys not being available.

If any of these happens, we will tell you what it means for the price before we continue, not afterwards. You can then decide how you want to proceed.

2. Booking and cancellation

  • A booking is confirmed once you accept the written quote and any deposit stated on it has been paid.
  • If you need to change the date, tell us as soon as you can and we will do our best to move you to another slot, subject to availability. End-of-month Saturdays are our busiest slots and are the hardest to re-arrange.
  • The cancellation terms, including any deposit and any charge for cancelling at short notice, are set out on your written quote.
  • We may need to postpone a move for reasons genuinely outside our control — severe weather, road closures, accidents, vehicle breakdown, civil disruption or similar. If that happens we will contact you promptly and agree the earliest workable alternative date.

3. What we will and will not move

We move household and office goods. There are things we will not carry, and you must not put them in our vehicle or hide them inside packed items:

  • Cash, jewellery, precious metals and stones, and other high-value small items.
  • Critical documents — passports, IDs, title deeds, share certificates, wills and similar. Carry these yourself.
  • Hazardous goods — gas cylinders, petrol, diesel, paraffin, paint thinners, solvents, aerosols, fireworks, corrosives, ammunition, and anything flammable or explosive.
  • Illegal items of any kind, including controlled substances and unlicensed firearms.
  • Living things — pets and plants — unless we have specifically agreed this with you in writing beforehand.
  • Perishable food and anything likely to attract pests or leak.

If we find such items in the load, we may refuse to move them and, where the law requires it, report the matter. We accept no responsibility for prohibited items you place in our care without telling us.

If you are unsure whether we can move something, ask us before the day.

4. Your obligations

A move works when both sides do their part. You agree to:

  • Declare what you own. Tell us about everything to be moved, and in particular about anything fragile, valuable, unusually heavy or awkward — glass tables, artwork, screens, pianos, safes, large appliances.
  • Describe the access honestly. Floors, lifts, stairs, gate widths, parking, carry distance, and any restrictions on when vehicles may enter the estate or building.
  • Arrange permits and permissions where they are needed — estate or building management approval, gate passes, lift bookings, parking or road access. We will tell you what we need; obtaining it is your responsibility.
  • Have someone present at both ends — you or a responsible adult you authorise. That person hands over access, directs the crew on which items go where, and checks the inventory with us at collection and again at delivery.
  • Prepare the goods where you have chosen to pack yourself. Boxes must be properly packed, sealed and able to be lifted safely. We are not responsible for damage to the contents of boxes we did not pack.
  • Disconnect and reconnect appliances, water, gas and electrical services unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.
  • Keep valuables and documents with you, not in the load.

5. Our responsibilities

  • We will carry out the move with reasonable care and skill, using crew who are trained for the work.
  • We wrap and protect furniture as standard, and we load so that items are secured for the journey.
  • We will arrive at the agreed time. Where traffic or an incident on the road delays us, we will call you.
  • We will handle your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Liability and claims

We take the care of your goods seriously. If something is damaged or missing:

  • Tell us straight away. Damage or loss should be reported to the crew at delivery and noted on the inventory, and confirmed to us in writing as soon as possible and in any event within the period stated on your quote.
  • Give us a fair chance to inspect the item and to put it right before it is repaired, replaced or disposed of.
  • Send us what you have — photos, the inventory, and any proof of value.

We are not responsible for:

  • damage to the contents of boxes or containers that you packed yourself;
  • damage arising from an inherent defect or the existing condition of an item, or from normal wear;
  • electrical or mechanical faults in appliances or electronics that are not accompanied by external damage;
  • loss or damage to items we told you we would not carry, or that you placed in the load without declaring them;
  • indirect or consequential loss, such as lost income or lost business.

Cover. Ask us about the cover options available for your move when you book, so that you know exactly where you stand before moving day. The cover applying to your move, and any limits on our liability, will be confirmed in writing with your quote.

7. Payment

  • The price, any deposit, and when the balance falls due are set out on your written quote.
  • Any additional work agreed on the day, or any change in price under clause 1, is payable in addition to the quoted price.
  • We may withhold delivery of the goods where payment that is due has not been made.
  • If you need an invoice in a company name, tell us when you book.

8. Complaints

If something is not right, tell us. Email [email protected] or call +254 748 880 468 with your move date, the two addresses and what happened. We will look into it and come back to you.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your move is the version in force on the date you accept your quote.

10. Governing law

These terms, and any agreement between you and Nyati Movers, are governed by the laws of Kenya. Any dispute arising out of them is subject to the jurisdiction of the Kenyan courts. Nothing in these terms removes any right you have that cannot be excluded under Kenyan law.
