What Moving in Kiambu Is Actually Like.
Kiambu is two things at once. There are standalone homes sitting in their own compounds, reached by roads that were never built for a ten-tonne lorry. And there is Ruaka, where apartment blocks have gone up faster than the roads serving them.
- Murram access roads. Plenty of Kiambu properties sit at the end of a narrow murram track. A big truck cannot always take it, and forcing one down there is how you end up carrying everything the last two hundred metres. We size the vehicle to the road, and we ask about the road before we quote.
- Compounds and gates. Standalone homes usually mean a gate, a driveway and enough room to work — which is a gift after a Nairobi high-rise. We take advantage of it and stage the load properly.
- Ruaka is going vertical. New blocks, tight parking and lifts that are in demand. It behaves more like Nairobi than like the rest of Kiambu, and we plan it that way.
- Limuru and Tigoni are cooler and wetter. Rain turns a murram driveway into a problem and soaks anything left uncovered. Up here, wrapping is not a nicety — mattresses, sofas and boxes get covered before they leave the house, not after.
